One of the world's most expensive oils, Rose de Mai Absolute (rosa damascena), takes 170 flower heads to produce one drop. The supreme oil of the centre of love, it is used in the creation of '1872', along with fresh sparkling Bergamot from Italy, Guaiacwood Oil (bulnesia sarmienti) from Argentina and Jasmine Absolute, associated with Isis the Egyptian goddess of the moon, it can be found on the banks of the Nile.

The individuality of 'X' can be attributed to Pink Peach, Mandarin (citrus madurensis), and Lily-of-the-Valley (convallaria magalis), all interlaced with Jasmine of Egypt and 'rosa damascena', which in medieval Christian tradition was associated with the presence of an angel. Sweet Vanilla, Sandalwood and Patchouli, whose aroma was considered a hallmark of genuine Oriental goods, all contribute to the fragrance which is 'X' for women.

Once referred to as the 'grains of paradise', Cardamon Oil is distilled from the seeds of Ceylon Cardamons (elettoria cardommum), and combined with Sicillian Bergamot, Pink Pepper and Bay Cinnamon create the basis for 'X' for men. They are joined in the fragrance by the oil of the 'junperous virginiana' Virginia Cedar, a wood highly valued in Egyptian times, and Tonka Beans, the seeds of the 'dipeterix oppositifolia' tree which grow in very small groups around the Orinoco River in Brazil.
